ANEW – Association for Non traditional Employment for Women
You may have wondered why our association has the word “Non Traditional” in it. To help you understand….
At ANEW, we are reaching out to the economically weaker section of our society. The parents of our candidates are house workers (servants), painters, coolies, drivers, vendors etc…..So, in their social background, women have never taken up work of any other kind.
The candidates we reach out to, are the ones who have been to schools and have some kind of basic education. …but looking for guidance/assistance to go beyond…
At ANEW they are taught –
1.Computers (they have ABSOLUTELY NO exposure to this but this basic knowledge is necessary everywhere today) – we teach Basic computer applications , DTP (Desk Top Publishing), Tally (an accounts and inventory management software) and Web Designing (adobe CS6) along with a special batch of Hearing/Speech impaired candidates
2.Home nursing – a growing need in today’s society…..to take care of the elderly / sick people / children- (min qualification 8th std)
3.Car/ Auto Driving – we are trying to break the barriers here…till date we have trained around 80 candidates in this line. A trainee, from one of our early batches, is now an ambulance driver at the Government hospital !! …some found employment at the Airport, some as valets in hotels, some were employed in an all womens call taxi service etc..
4.Optometry – The latest course that we have introduced more than a year ago…..The trainees can get placed with ophthalmologists and at the optical stores and other eye care centres…
5.Facilities Services – A course for older women, previously employed as house maids, who could now find employment in the service industry, in laundry and kitchen units.
To integrate them into the work force of today, we include Spoken English and Counselling as part of all training programs.
Our firm belief is – Educating a woman (overall…not just books !!) …educates her family….she will be a better wife, mother and a home maker too… aware of the need to educate her children for a better tomorrow……….
