My Experience at ANEW

I first heard about ANEW in April 2013 through a few of my mom’s friends. I badly wanted to work at an NGO and ANEW was willing to give me that chance.

My first work experience at ANEW was in the month of April. My role at ANEW for the month was to conduct “activity sessions” as part of the Confidence Building / Spoken English workshop for the special summer program. I handled 3 batches. These girls were all from govt aided and corporation schools. They had just written their 12th board exams and were awaiting results. Teaching the girls at ANEW was one of the most profound experiences of my life. I got the chance to interact with underprivileged girls and teach them Spoken English. But I mostly concentrated on trying to build up their self esteem. These girls, each coming from different backgrounds, were so driven and ambitious. They were so determined to succeed, so eager to learn and willing to do anything to make their dreams come true. I joined ANEW with the intention to teach the underprivileged and to make an impact BUT in the end it was the girls who taught me an important lesson. They taught me to never give up on my dreams.

I again recently worked at ANEW during my Onam vacations in September. This time around I helped with admin work and also in putting together their brochure.

I can honestly say that working at ANEW was an enlightening experience, one that I will never forget. And I hope to be back there once again, after my board exams, to teach the girls again.
